About
The journeys started individually, Tom adopted by his father, and Connie spent a year as a teenager in a foster home.
When they came together and moved to Menominee, MI in 2021 the conversation began about fostering. Then in July 2022 they enrolled in foster classes and realizing through conversations in those classes, the need is bigger than what they had realized.
Rather than feeling overwhelmed, they asked, “What can we do?” Which led to more conversations and the realization that they could do more.
Which brings us to today and the Simmerland Sanctuary mission.
The vision is to create a group home for foster children who are in need of another option, a place to support them through education and support networks as they transition into independent living.
We continue to focus on fundraising so we can purchase a home that will become The Simmerland Sanctuary Group Home, however long that takes.
